A noise that can implement harmful effects on the activity and health of humans and   animal’s life living in an area is called noise pollution.

Causes of noise pollution:

  • Big machines used in industries produce a large amount of noise.
  • Various equipment like compressors and generators also produces a large amount of noise. These are used in industries mostly.
  • Poor Urban Planning is also responsible for noise pollution in society.
  • Congested houses, massive households sharing small area, combat over parking, common fights over simple amenities result in noise pollution.
  • In social events (i.e. marriages, parties, etc.) noise is at its peak. People play songs on high volume.
  • Transportation (i.e. vehicles, trains, airplanes, etc.) also causes noise pollution.
  • Construction work also causes noise pollution.
  • Appliances like TV, mobile, mixer grinder, pressure cooker, vacuum cleaners, washing machine, and coolers have a minor contribution towards the noise pollution.

Harmful effect of noise pollution:

  • Hearing problems can occur in beings due to noise pollution.
  • It causes health issues in humans.
  • Loud noise can impede your sleep and might lead to irritation and uncomfortable situations.
  • It can hypertension and high-stress levels in humans.
  • It can cause damage to different human organs (liver, brain, and heart).
  • Noise can become hazardous to patients who needs rest.
  • It increases blood pressure, heartbeat, and headache.

Precautionary measures for noise pollution:

  • The noise-causing appliances in homes and offices should be switched off while not in use. This will save electricity as well as will prevent noise pollution.
  • The doors of cabinets or rooms should be remained closed when there is some machinery or equipment which can produce noise.
  • Using earmuffs can bring loud noise to a bearable level.
  • The volume of TV, radios, or songs playing in any player or mobiles should be kept low while using speakers or headphones.
  • Areas that produce a large amount of noise such as highways, industries, mills, construction sites, factories should be kept away at a reasonable distance from residential areas. Moreover, people should avoid unnecessary visits to noisy places.
  • Noise level should be limited in society. Laws about noise level should be made.
  • Loud music in cars and outdoor parties should be banned.
  • We should plant more trees and plants in society because they act as noise absorbents. People should be encouraged for plantation. According to studies, plants can reduce noise from 5 to 10 decibels around them.
  • Create healthy noise around yourself such as good and decent music, chirping of birds or violin tune, etc.
  • People should do proper maintenance and proper lubrication of their vehicles and machines. They should change their oil regularly and have their vehicles repaired and checked on time so that they can work properly and produce less noise.
  • The government should check if someone is disobeying noise rules.
  • Old automobiles should be replaced with modern automobiles which are more efficient and environmentally friendly.
  • Create awareness and education among people on the consequences of noise pollution.
  • Hospitals, schools, and residential areas should be declared as “No Horn Zones”.
