Assalam o Alaikum guys,
Hope you are doing well.
This blog has been created to help you guys in finding initial curricular Guidance and for a community service project.

Objective:

When we were in our first semester, a lot of our fellows did not know, how to download a particular book, solution manual, or some software. So, we have created a solution to address this problem. We have compiled an all in one package to facilitate you guys so that you don't have to encounter what we did in our first years.
So, use it and do share it with your friends who really need this. Cheers!!

Initial curricular guidance for freshmen of SMME, NUST

SMME (School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering) is establishing as the Centre of Excellence in teaching, research and solving industry problems. For this, it is pursuing diverse programs of studies and Sciences besides Mechanical, Design and Manufacturing. Following high standards in academics with highly qualified faculty and state-of-the-art research and manufacturing facilities, the School depicts a modern industrial and academic environment to the students and faculty.

MISSION

To develop SMME as a world-class engineering institution focused on the learning environment, quality teaching and research addressing problems of industry and community.

SMME LIBRARY

A dedicated library has been established at the school to support academic as well as research activities. The SMME library functions with support from NUST Central library, maintaining dedicated sections to support industrial and scientific research carried out by SMME departments. The library is managed by a faculty in charge of working with a dedicated library team. SMME library currently holds a collection of over 5000 books, journals and manuscripts. Additionally, the library also has access to hundreds of online databases and eBooks. The collection includes textbooks, reference books, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, industrial standards, handbooks, atlases and classic literature. The library also offers audio/visual facilities, scanning/photocopying and thesis binding services.

Library Hours & Holidays

Library remains open on all working days of the week (Monday-Friday) from 09:00 A.M. to 09:00 P.M & remains closed on public holidays.

Location

The library is located on the second floor in the SMME building, Room No. 311.

LIBRARY SERVICES

Borrowing

Circulation activity of information sources is among the core services of SMME library. Users can apply and get their membership for borrowing the information sources (books and other material). All registered users of SMME are entitled to borrow books. Lending privileges differ for various categories. Information about the categories and services can be enquired at the Circulation Desk of SMME library.

Photocopy Services

Photocopy facility is available for readers, to make copies from Reference books & Journals etc.

Reader Advisory

The reader advisory guide the library users on how to use library software and databases to get the required material. The library staff gives a wide range of presentations to library users, to enable users to use the library sources to its maximum. These presentations educate users on the use of different online databases for literature searching. Presentations for small groups can also be arranged on request.

Reference

Trained and highly qualified professional staff is available to provide reference services to all the library users. User may make queries through telephone (+925190856029) or through e-mail (waseem.riaz@smme.nust.edu.pk).

Collection Organisation

This is the main service of the library, comprising of high quality books related to SMME academic programmes. The major areas on which books and other information material is available are Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Thermo-Dynamics, Differential Equation, Design and Manufacturing, Robotics, Biomedical etc. A significant number of print and electronic reference sources are available on reference shelves.

Manufacturing resource center (MRC):

This is a far-off place in NUST which is unfortunately visited by all departments in their first years, especially by the mechanical boys because this course is the heart of their degree.

Location?

Just visit SMME and ask for MRC, someone will certainly tell you about a massive building with curly metal roof.

Departments?

There about a dozen departments inside a single building of MRC i.e. starting from your extreme left departments are:

1.     Electroplating

2.     Electric shop

3.     Bench fitting

4.     Woodworks

5.     Machining (CNC & Lathe)

6.     Welding

7.     Casting

8.     Forging

Importance?

The only practical course an engineer gets in his university life is in MRC. This practical course will give you an insight of the above-mentioned departments. So, in your whole degree if you feel need of any such skill in your projects, these will come in handy plus, the MRC staff is willing to help you.

Concordia 4:

Whether you are SMMEIAN or not, whenever you are at SMME, the one place almost everyone will visit is Concordia 4 or simply C4.

Location?

This place is in the heart of SNS, SMME and MRC. This is the only place that combines the peeps of SNS and SMME because the departments are usually separated by iron grills.

What does C4 represent?

C4 isn’t just a café for the peeps of SMME and SNS to eat (which it of course is), it represents the SMME brotherhood.

What is importance of C4?

This is the only café in proximity to these departments, so this is the only fun place as well. That’s the reason why after classes the awam comes out of their cages to spend some fun time and to do Non-Curricular discussions. Some you (ultra-thetas’) which do not eat breakfast will be visiting this place very often.

Most of the high voltage events such as SMME sports gala elections and society outdoor game events occur at this place.

Food Recommendation:

Usually the biryani is the thing in demand, but I will recommend the banana shake.
